Already Autumn again?

Oh my, this year seems to have flown by!   Its been a summer of "projects", a new deck, a remodeled entrance hall, a new garden... and suddenly, its fall!   Oh, and 2 computer crashes, that really put me behind, still looking for lost files...

I did complete a couple of portraits earlier this year that I've not posted before.   I guess this would be a good time to do it!

Petunia and Brandy, my SIL's two adorable boxers:
watercolor on Arches paper, 5" x 7"

and this handsome Persian, Mokie, who was known to his
closest friends as "The Fabio of Cats".
Pastel on Faber-Castel paper, 5"x7"
The portraits of Brandy & Mokie were done as Memorials, both beloved pets passed on earlier this year.

Blessings,
Pat

Siamese please

4 x 6, watercolor
The reference photo of this beautiful girl was a closeup of her striking blue eyes.   This one was mailed to her owner.   But, as she is so gorgeous,  I did a second painting.

This one is 2.5 x 3.5, a size called an ATC,  or, Artist Trading Card.   Its a new trend in art  - they are often traded between artists.    They can often be purchased from artists directly as well -  its a nice way to  develop a collection of original artwork.

Thanks for visiting!

A New Year

Andrew 2.5 x 3.5 (Artist Trading Card)
watercolor & gouache over watercolor pour

What better way to welcome a new year than with a friendly face like this adorable Airdale puppy.  Looking at him puts a smile on my face!  Loved doing all the curls and that big ol' gumdrop nose  on this cute puppy.

Wishing you all the best in the coming year!

thanks for dropping by,
Pat

Another Pretty Kitty

Belle   3.5 x 2.5
I just love this pretty kitty's beautifully marked coat - those tabby legs & tail are so cute!   She is done in pastel.

Merry Christmas!

The humble donkey, a favorite character in the Christmas Story...

I memorized this song off an  Ed Ames Christmas album when I was a teenager.  I sang it to my own children every Christmas.

Long ago in another day,
a Donkey cried in his donkey way,
"I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful,
what good to anyone am I?
Other animals are big and strong,
or rare, or filled with an animal song.....
but I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful,
what good to anyone am I?

Heaven cried, "Donkey, you can carry...
Will you carry Mary, Angels for your guide?"

On Christmas morn in the stable hay,
the Donkey smiled in his donkey way,
"I feel beautiful, I feel beautiful,
as beautiful as anyone am I...
as beautiful as anyone am I!"

A classic lesson - great beauty combines form and function!

WOW! I can't believe it, but I found this on the internet - Merry Christmas everyone!

Timeless Cat

4x6 watercolor & gouache over a poured wc background

There is something about a cat staring intensely at something
that seems to suspend time.

My own cute little Moo

Getting involved in a pet portrait exchange motivated me to do portraits of my dogs, too.

Meet my shadow, Moo.
4x6, watercolor

Pretty cute little shadow, no?   Can you tell she's a spunky little thing?
She keeps things lively around here!
I thoroughly enjoyed doing this one, "pushing" color into the shadows,
and doing all that fur detailing.
I get totally absorbed in applying the color & brushstrokes!

Thanks for stopping by,
Pat

PS - I've added this one as a blank card on my greeting card site.  I ordered a few, and the printing is very nice & vibrant.   Please check out Jackstar Cards.   They are very reasonably priced, and the company will even mail it for you.
